You’re worth exceptional care.

We’re here to provide it.

At Myrtle Mental Health, we’re here to empower you to take an active role in your healthcare journey. While medication can be beneficial for some mental health conditions, it’s just one part of a comprehensive treatment plan. We also encourage you to embrace non-pharmacological options, such as optimized nutrition, regular exercise, and—when appropriate—therapy. By incorporating these lifestyle habits, you can strengthen both your mental and physical well-being. We’ll support you every step of the way as you build a foundation for lasting wellness.

Follow-up Perinatal (during pregnancy) Appointment

Why Are Perinatal Follow-Up Appointments More Frequent?

During pregnancy, both the body and brain undergo rapid and complex changes that can significantly impact mental health. Because of these fast-moving shifts, perinatal follow-up appointments need to be more frequent than standard psychiatric visits.

Why is this necessary?

  • Hormonal and physiological changes: Pregnancy-related hormone fluctuations can cause mood shifts, anxiety, or depression to develop or worsen quickly. More frequent check-ins allow us to monitor and adjust treatment as needed.

  • Medication adjustments: If medication is part of your treatment plan, careful monitoring is essential to ensure safety for both you and your baby. Pregnancy can affect how medications are metabolized, requiring dose adjustments or alternative options. During pregnancy, the amount of fluid (blood volume) can increase by 40-50% compared to a non-pregnant state, which greatly affects the level of medication in your body.

  • Lab work and safety checks: Some psychiatric medications require regular lab monitoring, and pregnancy can influence lab values, making more frequent testing necessary.

  • Postpartum preparation: The risk of mood and anxiety disorders increases significantly after childbirth. Regular appointments help us proactively plan for postpartum care, reducing the risk of severe postpartum depression or anxiety.

At Myrtle Mental Health, we prioritize your well-being by providing thorough, compassionate care throughout pregnancy and beyond. More frequent appointments ensure that your treatment remains safe, effective, and responsive to the rapid changes happening during this critical time.

Insurance Information

Myrtle Mental Health is out of network for insurance plans, but we will provide you with a “superbill” upon request that you can submit to your insurance company for possible reimbursement. Depending on the terms of your plan, any reimbursement check may be sent directly to you rather than to our office. Please note that you are responsible for paying the appointment fee prior to your appointment to Myrtle Mental Health; if you submit a superbill to your insurance, your insurance may reimburse you afterward.

A superbill includes the diagnosis codes and billing codes your insurance company needs to determine reimbursement. Importantly, you do not need insurance to receive services at Myrtle Mental Health.

Patients with federal or state insurance plans, such as Medicare, Medicaid, and TRICARE, are typically not eligible to submit superbills for out-of-network or non-participating providers, according to those programs’ policies. We encourage you to contact your insurance company directly for additional information and clarification.
